May Breeze

Author: Tess Donnelly, Stonehill College

On a sunny afternoon in May,
When wind through an open window takes,
The swirling curtains start to play,
And the summer within me begins to shake,

The airing sheets soon let go,
Flying free with no rest.
Never, has the weather been just so,
Then comes a breeze as though in jest.

The change we’d be certain of.
Blowing breaths of life through the open hall
Like a child at play, who loves,
Not until the flowers start to fall.

Like the petals we try to catch before,
We close our window and see no more.
